Ginkgo 銀杏

The ginkgo turns a clean yellow after the maples have gone red, and drops its leaves almost at once — a street can go gold and bare within a week. It is Tokyo's tree, planted along avenues because it shrugs off smoke and fire. Its nuts, ginnan, roast in the shell in autumn izakaya.
